2009 Case Ave
Multifamily LEED Project

In the spring of 2009, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity broke ground on what will mark our first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified multi-family townhome development.

After working with the City of St. Paul for seven years, extensive soil testing and several site plans, Twin Cities Habitat purchased the tax forfeited property for $1. A ravine at the site served for many years as a construction company’s unofficial disposal ground for large quantities of fill, including broken asphalt.

Twin Cities Habitat conducted extensive soil clean up and remediation including the installation of helical piers to stabilize the soil.  This development returns an unused brown field property to productive use, adding six affordable homeownership units to an underserved neighborhood.

The townhomes will feature numerous green elements, including:
• Storm water detention pond
• Fiber Cement Siding
• Locally sourced drywall & lumber
• ENERGY STAR windows & appliances
• A high efficiency furnace with recovery ventilator
• Green Seal carpet with soy based carpet pad
• Glueless, laminate flooring
• Water flow reducers
• And more!

Major Habitat for Humanity Sponsors and partners include: Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, Ecolab, Travelers, the Lipkin Family, City of St. Paul, Ramsey County and SHOP.
